WHAT is the SLAM program?
The SLAM program was developed to promote physical activity and better eating habits for young men between the ages of 11 - 17. The program includes the following:
Team Sport Activities
Boot Camp Fitness (running, swimming. calisthenics, jump rope, etc,)
Muscle Training Sessions (Personal Training and weight training classes)
Nutrition Education Workshops (for parents and teens)
Mentoring (each young man will be paired with a trained mentor to motivate him to a healthier way of living and provide a positive support system)
The program is a collaboration venture with the National Association on Teen Fitness and Exercise (NATFE) and Beta Omega Social Service Inc. (BOSS).
WHO is eligible?
This program is for young men between the ages of 11 - 17, who live in the District of Columbia. All participants must have parental consent and be willing to complete evaluation materials as well as attend all activities associated with the program.
WHEN does the program start?
The program will be scheduled to begin at site - specific times but will last for a 20 or 40 week period.
WHERE will the program take place?
All SLAM program activities usually will be held at the site that adopts the program unless the site do not have the space needed to run a safe program a site close to the adopted site will be chosen.
WHY should I enroll in this program?
It's an opportunity to improve your health and your self-image, while learning life-long skills and healthy habits in a safe and supervised environment. It's a great way to learn more about good nutrition and exciting physical activity right in your own community, working with people you know.
