Programs and Services
Projects/Programs:
The National Association on Teen Fitness and Exercise (NATFE) provide programs that involve fitness, physical and nutritional education as a means to reduce negative behaviors in youth ages 5-19.
NATFE Model Programs:
1. DANSE (Developing Attributes of Nutrition Self-Esteem and Exercise)
DANSE is a program targeting females between the ages of 11-19. The components of the program are dance classes, group exercise classes, personal training, nutrition education workshop and self - esteem and image support groups.
2. SLAM (Saving Lives and Minds) Program
SLAM is a program targeting males between the ages of 10-17. This program's major goal is to help males in this age group realize that exercise and good nutrition is essential to becoming healthy adults. The components of the program are boot camp like exercise programs, team and individual sport training, weight lifting training, and mentoring.
3. CAMP MEET (Motivating Eating habits, and Exercise to Teens)
Our obesity prevention camp for young people age 10 - 19years old.
4. One on One and Family
physical education and nutrition education programs which involve home site visits and nutrition education assessments. Each participant is given a fitness assessment and has a personalized Fitness Specialist to help accomplish fitness goals. Family receives in home nutritional education modules from a certified nutritionist on how to establish health eating habits in the home.
5. MLPMR (Motivating Little People to Move and Read) Program
MLPMR is a program targeting youth between the ages of 5 - 8. This program teaches ballet and other dances to young people to promote physical activity and utilizes the stories of the ballet to teach reading skills. Therefore participants learn to move and read by using common stories that are interesting and fun.
6. Anger Management through Physical Activity
We are currently developing a program to help young people learn how to manage there anger by using boxing and meditation type classes such as yoga and martial arts.
7. Project TASTEE(Taking Away Smoking and Tobacco through Exercise and Eating right)
It has been noted that teens who are engaged in some type of physical activity program are less likely to yield to smoking and the use of tobacco products. Furthermore, teens who do smoke really struggle with weight management issues and correlate smoking with controlling their weight. Project TASTEE offers an alternative to teens in both of these situations through a systematic program that utilize exercise and nutrition education.
NATFE Services
Educational workshops:
These workshops will emphasize proper fitness and exercise
for teens as well as the latest nutrition education
that promote good health. These workshops are provided
to fitness professionals, health facilities, youth service
organizations, schools, coaches, and youth.
Certification workshops:
These workshops will be provided to fitness professionals
on proper protocols and techniques for training youth
ages 10-19, highlighting contraindicated exercises,
proper nutrition, and proper exercise technique that
is safe, age appropriate, and age specific.
Annual Meeting:
A yearly meeting will be hosted each year organized
by the agency to report best practices and research
findings associated with teen fitness and exercise.
This conference will target professionals as well as
youth to come and learn about proper exercise, nutrition,
and fitness.
